Prep Roundup: North Cobb pulls away from South

Clinging to a 3-2 lead, North Cobb scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, en route to a 11-2 win over South Cobb in five innings Thursday.

The Lady Warriors (7-4, 2-0 Region 4AAAAAA) sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth and totaled 10 of their 16 hits in the frame.

Kayla Trumbull was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored twice. Ericka Clifford batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Taylor Krause had a double and an RBI. Katlyn Tinsley was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Casey Page had three hits and scored twice. Bryanna Vazquez had two hits and scored two runs.

Olivia Mould (4-2) got the win, allowing two earned run on four hits over five innings.

Dezirae Rhodes had a two-run home run in the fourth to lead South Cobb (8-4, 0-2).

North Cobb is at the Softball in the Sand tournament at St. Simons Island today and Saturday, while South Cobb will host McEachern on Wednesday.

Kennesaw Mountain 3, Harrison 2: The Lady Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally from a 2-0 deficit and claim the Region 4AAAAAA home victory.

Abby Chandler tripled to lead off the fifth for Kennesaw Mountain (13-0, 2-0). Becky Granneman singled and Malea Bell, who was

3-for-3, hit a two-run double to tie the contest. Maddi Lewis’ single plated Bell with the winning run.

Kathryn Woody (10-0) allowed two runs — one earned — off four hits and struck out nine to pace Kennesaw Mountain.

The Lady Mustangs will host Lassiter on Tuesday, while Harrison (6-2, 0-1) will host North Cobb on Thursday.

Pope 11, Sprayberry 0 (5 inn.): Ellyn Strother, who struck out five and walked three, threw her first career no-hitter in leading the Lady Greyhounds to the Region 7AAAAA home victory.

Lindsey Monkiewicz batted 2-for-2 with a double and scored twice to lead Pope (8-4, 2-1), which had 11 hits and scored four runs in the first, three in the third and five in the fourth inning.

Lauren Palace was 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Strother batted 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Quentin Staton had an RBI double and Sydney Segers added three RBIs.

Pope will host Kennesaw Mountain on Wednesday, while Sprayberry (5-8, 0-2) will host Northview on Thursday.

McEachern 6, Campbell 5: Dymond McMillan drove in the tying run and then scored the winning run on an error as the Lady Indians downed the Lady Spartans in Region 4AAAAAA play.

McEachern entered the top of the seventh down 5-3, but Khayla Green started the rally with a bunt single and a stolen base. Abigail Cherry followed with an RBI single and then McMillan brought her home to tie the game.

Cherry finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while McMillan and Green each finished 3-for-4.

The Lady Indians (4-2, 1-1) will travel to South Cobb on Wednesday.

VOLLEYBALL

North Cobb 3, Etowah 0:
The Lady Warriors won the best-of-five match, largely cruising to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 win.

Abby Miller had 15 kills and 12 digs, while Kaitlyn Woodruff had 11 kills and Taylor Parrish 31 assists. Tate Pember led the defense with 27 digs, and Christina Matacotta had 15 digs and six aces.

North Cobb (11-4) will be off until beginning next weekend’s Lovett Block Party with Marist.

Walker splits tri-match: The Lady Wolverines swept Lassiter, but they lost to Pope at the Hound Pound.

Walker (7-5) beat the Lady Trojans 25-22, 25-22, but dropped a 25-21, 25-14 decision to the Lady Greyhounds.

Anna Chocallo had 22 digs, while Sasha Fazylov totaled 17 digs and 11 kills and Jordan Tasman chipped in 10 digs and 10 kills. Brooke Warner contributed 15 kills and 10 assists, and Holland Martin collected 20 assists and four aces.

Walker will compete in a Pace Academy play date Sept. 7.

Kennesaw Mountain earns sweep: The Lady Mustangs beat Decatur (25-19, 25-11) before rallying to top Sprayberry (15-25, 25-15, 25-19) in a tri-match.

Mia Griffiths had 27 kills, three aces and five digs for Kennesaw Mountain. Lindsey Nation totaled 15 kills, five aces and 10 digs, while Kaleigh Nance added 30 assists. Haley Bonck had eight blocks. Megan Dreyer chipped in 19 digs.

Kennesaw Mountain (4-13) will host Kell and Marietta on Tuesday.

Mount Paran takes two of three: The Lady Eagles beat host Hillgrove (25-18, 21-25, 25-13) and Allatoona (33-31, 24-26, 25-15), but they fell 25-16, 25-16 to River Ridge.

Melissa Morris had 35 digs, seven kills and six aces for Mount Paran (11-4). Asher Ward had 50 digs, Caroline Cook added 13 kills and eight blocks, while Rachel Wilson and Ashlyn Hutchinson combined for nine blocks and six kills.

Mount Paran will travel to Darlington on Tuesday for a tri-match with Gordon Lee.

Lassiter splits tri-match: Libby Bochniak had 15 kills and 14 digs to help lead the Lady Trojans to a tri-match split.

Lassiter downed east Cobb rival Pope (25-13, 25-23), but then fell to Walker (25-23, 25-22).

Becca Ledford had 10 kills and 13 digs, and Sam Link finished with 31 assists and 12 digs.

The Lady Trojans (13-3) will play in the Lovett Block Party on Sept. 6-7.

Whitefield Academy splits tri-match: Kelsey Butler had eight kills, 13 digs and 10 aces to help lead the Lady Wolfpack to a tri-match split.

Whitefield dropped the first match to Fellowship Christian (25-12, 25-18), but recovered in the second by beating St. Francis (19-25, 25-22, 27-25).

Olivia Nichols has 12 digs and six kills, Kate McPhail finished with 22 assists and nine digs and Natalie Bell added 13 digs.

The Lady Wolfpack will host North Cobb Christian on Tuesday.
