The Lady Mustangs (1-0) built a 3-0 lead after five innings, before Allatoona (1-1) got on the board with runs in the sixth and seventh.
After Dani Lewis’ RBI double cut the score to 3-2, the Lady Buccaneers had the would-be tying run one base away in the seventh, but Kennesaw Mountain pitcher Kathryn Woody was able to induce a grounder to third that ended the game.
Woody (1-0) went the distance and got the win, despite giving up 11 hits. She struck out four and walked one.
Malea Bell was 2-for-3 with a home run, while Abby Chandler was 3-for-3 with a double. Kelsey Parker drove in Kayla Aarons on a squeeze bunt, with Aarons adding an RBI of her own on a sacrifice fly.
Casey Lewis provided Allatoona’s other RBI, and Morgan Kazerooni was 2-for-3.
Kennesaw Mountain will host Lovett today as part of the Georgia Dugout Club tournament, while Allatoona is at Lassiter today.
Kell 7, Riverwood 3 (8 inn.): Getting an early start to Region 7AAAAA play, the Lady Longhorns used a big eighth inning to win in Sandy Springs.
After Kell’s Sierra Shipley scored on a seventh-innning error to force extra innings, the Lady Longhorns (4-1, 1-0) used a mix of hits and Riverwood miscues to pull away in the eighth.
Natalie Parlato scored Taylor Colclasure on a fielder’s choice after Colclasure reached third on a misplayed third strike at the plate, and Parlato ultimately scored on Lauren Lattizori’s bunt. After another run scored on an error, Lattizori accounted for the final run when she scored on Gracie White’s bunt.
White was 3-for-5 on the night, while Parlato was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jill Torres scored two runs.
Lanie Angel (2-0) earned the win with three innings of no-hit relief.
After a week off, Kell will return to action Aug. 21 by hosting Harrison.
Pope 9, Wheeler 0 (6 inn.): The Lady Greyhounds scored six runs in the fifth inning to pull away, taking advantage of four errors along the way.
Megan Metzinger was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Sydney Segers was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Ellyn Strother was 2-for-4 and Ellie Viland was 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Lindsey Walsh gave up one hit in six innings pitched and had six strikeouts to get her third win.
Pope (4-1) will host Milton today in a non-region game.
South Cobb 13, Cartersville 4 (5 inn.): The Lady Eagles’ spotless start continued with a pool-play win in the Marietta Invitational.
After scoring a run in the first inning, South Cobb (3-1) broke the game open with six runs in the second.
Emily Cargle was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, as the Lady Eagles totaled 14 hits on the night. Asia Moore was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four runs scored, Bree Hubbert was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, and Tyonna Williams was 2-for-2 as well.
Brittney Rhodes (3-0) struck out four and walked one in an abbreviated complete game.
South Cobb will face Hiram today in another pool-play game at Marietta.
Allatoona 4, Marist 3: Trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Buccaneers scored two runs to win, capped by a walk-off hit by Hailey Reagor.
Morgan Kazerooni tied the game at 3-all with a sacrifice fly to score Kara Hester, before Reagor came through with the RBI single that score Erica Dunbar from third.
Makenzie Colwart got the win, giving up three runs on seven hits and had three strikeouts.
North Cobb 3, Brookwood 0: Coming off two straight state semifinal berths, the Lady Warriors earned a sweep to open the regular season.
North Cobb (1-0) served aggressively in all three sets, putting Brookwood out of its system. Christina Matacotta and Kaitlyn Woodruff both had three aces in the match.
Abby Miller and Woodruff both finished with seven kills, while Savanna Gonzales added six. Tate Pember finished with eight digs, and Lizzie Daniels had three blocks.
Taylor Parrish had 26 assists for North Cobb, which will host Riverwood and Southeast Whitfield on Thursday.
