Prep Roundup: Indians need 11 innings to down Warriors

Jared Walker’s two-out single scored Greg Browning for the go-ahead run as McEachern beat North Cobb 6-5 in 11 innings Friday.

The Indians won their second straight extra-inning game against the Warriors.

North Cobb scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 3-all. Then, trailing 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, Dustin Morrow hit a fielder’s choice RBI and Chandler Seivers’ single scored the tying run for the Warriors to force extra innings.

After two scoreless innings, Browning singled to lead off the 11th for the Indians. Jon Wells’ sacrifice bunt and Stephen Wells’ groundout moved Browning to third to set up Walker’s single.

Walker was 3-for-6 with two RBI, while Trey Harris had two hits. Chase Sudduth had a hit and two RBI. Browning was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Harris (1-0) recorded the win in relief after not allowing a run over the final three innings while striking out five and giving up three hits.

Starter Alex Speas gave up two unearned runs and struck out 10 over five innings.

Hillgrove 6, Campbell 0: Hillgrove clung to a 2-0 lead before exploding for four runs in the top of the seventh to get the Region 4AAAAAA road win.

Jalen Mateo was 2-for-4 with a RBI for the Hawks (6-4, 2-0), who collected 11 hits. Channing Painton batted 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Tristan Delozier had a RBI, Greg Perkins was 2-for-4 with a RBI and John Devine had two hits.

Chandler Joyner (2-0) gave up three hits and struck out three in 4 2/3 innings to get the victory.

Kennesaw Mountain 12, South Cobb 0 (5 inn.): Reggie Pruitt had two triples and Michael Atkinson drove in three runs to lead the Mustangs to a Region 4AAAAAA victory.

Zack Goodman pitched four innings of two-hit baseball to earn the victory.

Tyler Stephenson was 3-for-4 with a triple and Garrett Blinkhorn added a double in the win.

Walton 4, Milton 0: Walton scored twice in the first and added two runs in the sixth to win its Region 5AAAAAA opener at Raider Mountain.

Henry Rowling was 2-for-2 and Chase Burks had an RBI. The Raiders (8-2, 1-0) had six hits and scored three runs off three Eagles’ errors.

Burks (3-0) threw a complete- game five-hitter. He struck out five and walked one.

Allatoona 8, Paulding County 3: Allatoona remained undefeated following its Region 5AAAAA road victory.

The Buccaneers (7-0, 5-0) trailed 3-2 in the second inning, but scored six runs in the fifth. Justin Evans was 3-for-3, Brett Benton batted 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth and Drew Swanson had a hit and three RBIs. Brandon Rainey added a hit and drove in two for Allatoona.

Grayson Harbin (2-0) gave up three runs — two earned — on four hits and struck out six in four innings for the win.

Sprayberry 11, Osborne 0 (5 inn.): Zach Williams threw a one- hitter in helping Sprayberry to a Region 7AAAAA road win.

Williams (1-0) struck out four in four innings for the Yellow Jackets (7-3, 4-1), who led 2-0 in the first, but scored three in the third, five in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Michael Chavis, who was 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases, collected his fourth and fifth home runs of the season.

Michael Kennedy also had an RBI.

Pope 4, Forsyth Central 0: Braden Zarbnisky pitched a complete game, scattered seven hits and struck out 11 as the Greyhounds earned a Region 7AAAAA victory.

Parker Orr was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Patrick Weisman had an RBI double and Stephen Skruck added a double.

Walker 5, Fellowship Christian 4: Zach Eikost’s game-winning double plated James Pittinger as Walker rallied from a 4-3 seventh-inning deficit to record the Region 6A home win.

Kevin Bray walked to lead off the seventh and moved to second on Gaines Lahue’s sacrifice bunt. Cameron Bloebaum’s fly out pushed Bray to third and James Pittinger’s two-out single to right scored Bray to extend the contest.

Pittinger advanced to second during a throw to the plate on his game-tying at-back. Eikost’s walk-off RBI double completed the comeback.

Bloebaum was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Walker, while Pittinger batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Eikost allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out three in two innings to get the victory.

Mount Paran Christian 13, North Cobb Christian 3 (5 inn.): Mount Paran led 1-0 in the first inning and scored six runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to earn the Region 6A road victory.

Reed Massey batted 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Mount Paran (7-2, 6-0), which had 12 hits. Isaac Phillips was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Matt Norton batted 3-for-4 with three RBI. Landon Faulkner had a hit with two RBIs and Graham True had a hit with an RBI.

Mount Paran’s Rudy Jones (1-0) allowed two runs — one earned — off two hits and struck out two in four innings.

Rabon Martin doubled and Robert Green had a RBI for North Cobb Christian.


Pebblebrook 2, McEachern 1:
Arnold Martinez scored two goals and Bryan Gutierrez added two assists to lift the Falcons to the Region 4AAAAAA road win.

Pebblebrook (2-1-2, 2-1) led 1-0 at halftime and extended its margin to 2-0 in the second. McEachern scored its lone goal in the final minute of the contest.

Marietta 4, South Cobb 0: Four different players each scored goals for Marietta which won a Region 4AAAAAA road game.

Bryan Camarena, Norman Carmona, Luis Chavez and Will Nelson all scored. Nelson added two assists for the Blue Devils, who led 1-0 at halftime. Sam Borgel also had an assist.

Salvador Hernandez had five saves for Marietta, which is at East Paulding Wednesday.


McEachern 1, Pebblebrook 0 (6-5 PK):
Kaitlyn Valenzuela stopped the Lady Falcons’ final penalty kick to lift the Lady Indians to their first victory of the season.

After a 0-0 tie through regulation and overtime, Beneisha McCoy finally put McEachern up for good with her penalty kick.

Lassiter 7, Woodstock 0: Margo Richardson, Kaitlyn Sterling and Megan McGinnis each scored two goals to lead the Lady Trojans to a Region 5AAAAAA victory.

Kelsey Hahn added a goal. Shannon DeSantis and Megan Richardson combined for shutout.

Kennesaw Mountain 5, Sequoyah 0: Cheyenne Golden scored two goals to lead the Lady Mustangs to a non-region victory.

Olivia Guajardo, Jasmin Lanuza and Emma Parks each had a goal. Madeline Monroe and Tayler Hartrampf each had two assists. Meredith Bailey earned the shutout in goal.


Mustangs split in invitational:
Kennesaw Mountain had a pair of 3-2 decisions at the LaGrange Invitational, beating Milton and losing to North Gwinnett.

The Mustangs’ win came with a sweep of the singles points, including Mikey Deatrick’s 6-3, 6-2 clincher at No. 3. Matthew Osajima (6-2, 6-0) and Justin Thomas (6-1, 6-2) also won.

Against North Gwinnett, Kennesaw Mountain (5-4) won both doubles matches. Deatrick and David Oyola won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1, while Ryan Deatrick and Vangeli Katsoudas won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 at No. 2.

The Mustangs will complete their stay in the invitational with one more match today.

Pope 5, Forsyth Central 0: Pope remained undefeated on the season following its Region 7AAAAA victory at Central Park in Cumming.

Austin Bates lost one game at No. 1 singles for the Greyhounds (8-0, 6-0) as did the No. 1 doubles team of Mark Fisher and Michael Busby. Marc Gelernter didn’t give up a game at No. 3 singles, nor did No. 2 doubles team Matt White and Harrison Watkins. Dom Allan won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Pope hosts Sprayberry Tuesday.


Pope 5, Forsyth Central 0:
Nisha Detchprohm won her singles match 6-0, 6-0 to help lead the Lady Greyhounds to a Region 7AAAAA victory.

Eliza Barnes won 6-2, 6-4 and Katrina Kling 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in singles.

The doubles team of Meghan Matsumoto and Lindsay Roberts won 6-1, 6-1, as did Sydney Watkins and Erin Walsh 6-1, 6-2.

Walker 159, Darlington 169:
Barrett Kulak and Joe Reich each shot 36 to lead the Wolverines to the win at Cobblestone Golf Course.

Allen Perez carded a 42, while Tristan Barton’s 45 also helped with the scoring.

Milton 12, Walton 11:
The Raiders had a game-high two-goal lead in the fourth quarter, but they ultimately fell short in the Area 2AAAAAA showdown.

Walton (6-2, 1-1) led 9-7 with less than 8 minutes to play, but the teams then engaged in a flurry of goals, which Milton emerged from victoriously.

In all, the game featured five lead changes and eight fourth-quarter goals, including five in the last 4½ minutes.

Josh Peretz led Walton with three goals, while Ryan Jones, Dylan Boast and Justin Peterman had two apiece. Michael Gernatt and Cameron Wiley each scored once, and Jones had two assists.

Jake Hornberger made 12 saves for Walton, which will face Lassiter as part of the annual AJO4LAX Fest next Saturday at Pope.
