Darryl Knight hit three home runs and drove in five as Embry-Riddle beat Southern Poly 10-2 in an NAIA regional Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

With the loss, the Hornets must face the host Eagles again at 10 a.m. today, with the winner advancing to the NAIA World Series, which begins May 23 in Lewiston, Idaho.

Embry-Riddle also got a home run from Rhet Montana, and the four homers more than supported a complete-game, two-hit, nine-strikeout effort from Daniel Poncedeleon.

Southern Poly trailed 4-0 before it finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth. But Embry-Riddle answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Forrest Garrett started the game for the Hornets, but he lasted only three innings, allowing three runs on two hits and walking four to take the loss.

Darius Reese and Matt Miller each singled for Southern Poly’s two hits.
