An Atlanta man faces 15 felony charges after authorities say he shoplifted from two Cobb County stores and attacking employees with a knife.

James Luther Maloney is in the Cobb County jail after police say he tried to steal about $1,000 in merchandise from Wal-Mart and another $2,500 from Sears passing all checkout counters each time.

He is charged with five separate counts of shoplifting.

Maloney also faces multiple felony aggravated assault charges after reportedly brandishing a kitchen knife toward nine different employees who tried to stop him at both Wal-Mart and Sears.

Maloney has three prior shoplifting convictions.
