Ricardo Laron Harris, 32, has been charged in the murder of 19-year-old Yvonne Denise James, who was killed in the early morning of Jan. 1 at the Howard Johnson on Delk Road.
According to a Jan. 16 warrant, police were able to determine that Harris went to the hotel to meet James around 4:03 a.m. and was reportedly there until a little after 5:30 a.m., when he called 911 to report “someone had been killed.”
When police arrived on the scene, James was unresponsive and taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where she was pronounced dead.
“The autopsy at the Cobb Medical Examiner’s Office showed the victim had received multiple injuries to her head and face and had been drowned,” according to the warrant. “(Harris) was interviewed at Marietta Police Headquarters on three separate occasions and admittedly lied to police and has multiple discrepancies in his account of the story.”
Officer David Baldwin with Marietta Police Department said they are not releasing details of how James died but said she was a prostitute, Harris was her client and another individual arrested in connection with the incident, Ancil Anthony Neil of Austell, was a pimp.
Harris and Neil, 24, were originally arrested Jan. 2 and charged with felony concealing a death on accusations that they covered up James’ death.
They have both remained in the Cobb County Jail without bond.
Neil was also charged with misdemeanor tampering with evidence and theft by taking.
