ATLANTA — Three suspects are in custody after police say four students were robbed at gunpoint in their dorm room at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

One of the suspects is a Georgia State student and another is a former student, school officials said.

The two suspects who are not students were able to gain access to the dorm by using other students’ identification cards, school spokeswoman Andrea Jones said.

The suspects knocked on the door and two of the suspects pointed a hand gun in the students’ faces and robbed them of an iPad and cellphones Wednesday evening, police said.

Authorities say one suspect turned himself in to Atlanta police, another was turned in by his mother. The third was apprehended by campus police.

School officials initially said that two of the suspects are GSU students, but later learned that one of them was last enrolled at the school in the fall of 2012. The third suspect has no known affiliation with GSU, Jones said.

One of the suspects and at least one of the victims knew each other, said Carlton Mullis, deputy chief of the Georgia State University Police Department.
