AUSTELL — Police are asking for the public’s help in determining what may have caused the death of a 48-year-old Austell man whose body was found in his mobile home last Thursday.

Joseph Walker Jones was found dead by the property owners of the Village at Six Flags Road Mobile Home Park at 750 Six Flags Road at his mobile home on Fox Road in south Cobb on Aug. 15.

Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb County Police Department said a manager with the mobile home park discovered Jones’ body and called police after making a “welfare check” at the property.

He said welfare checks are often made at the request of a family member or friend who can’t get in touch with someone else living or staying at another location.

“In this case, someone called property management to do that so they went and checked on him,” Bowman said.

Jones’s body was turned over to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine when and how he died.

Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce previously said Jones’s body was found Thursday in a “state of decay” in the home.

Police are hoping family or friends can help them with this portion of the investigation.

“The investigators are asking for the public’s assistance,” Bowman said. “From anybody that may know anything about this guy.”

One piece of evidence they do have about Jones is that he was known to frequent Piedmont and Grant parks in Atlanta and the midtown Atlanta area.

Anyone with information which may assist detectives in this case is asked to call (770) 499-3945.
