Two Acworth elementary schools were put on lockdown for about an hour Tuesday morning while police searched for a suspect connected to a crime in Cobb County.

Clark Creek and Oak Grove elementary schools in Cherokee County were placed under a Code Yellow alert on Tuesday morning, meaning the exterior doors of the schools were locked and outdoor activities were canceled while police located and apprehended a suspect in an armed robbery, School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said. No Cobb County schools were placed under lockdown.

“Two suspects in an armed robbery were arrested following the crime; but (a third) fled from police. The schools started Code Yellow protocols as a precaution upon being notified of the incident by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office,” Jacoby said.

Police were searching for the final suspect near Wade Green Road off of Highway 92, along the Cobb and Cherokee county line, Jacoby said, and the schools remained on lockdown until the third suspect was apprehended, about an hour later.

“The Code Yellow protocols were lifted shortly after 10:30 a.m. when the Cherokee County School District was notified by the Sheriff’s Office that the third suspect was in custody,” Jacoby said.
