The police have received several tips from the community about an Hispanic man who is suspected of raping a woman in the back of a fake taxi cab last week.

Police are investigating a sexual assault, armed robbery and kidnapping of a woman that occurred on Lake Drive near Claymore Drive at about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.

The Marietta Police Department has received a number tips to its anonymous line, as well as regular calls and emails to the department.

Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said the tips could turn into leads when investigators begin following up on each one.

“We are hoping that one or some will become a lead,” Baldwin said.

The night of the suspected assault, the accused was driving an older model white Ford Crown Victoria with an unknown taxi company logo with red lettering. He offered the woman a ride, then pulled a handgun before sexually assaulting the woman in the back seat, according to a police report.

The woman was allowed to leave the car after the alleged assault and the suspect was last seen traveling toward South Marietta Parkway, according to the report.

The suspect is described as possibly being an Hispanic man about 6-foot-2 and about 40 to 45 years old.

The suspect has a scar over his right eye, a tattoo of a teardrop below the left eye and a large tattoo of a bird or eagle with red eyes on one of his forearms.

Any caller with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect can remain anonymous by calling the Marietta Police Tip Line at (770)794-6990 or contact Detective Shannon Arrowood at (770) 794-5371.
