ACWORTH — An Acworth man died in a late Tuesday motorcycle crash, police said.

Preliminary information shows that Scott Finnell, 44, was attempting to navigate a right curve while driving southbound on Cheatham Road when he apparently lost control of his black 2011 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said. Investigators said Finnell then left the east side of the roadway and struck a concrete retaining wall that was part of a bridge crossing a creek. Police said he then landed in the creek.

Finnell died at the scene, located between Deer Valley Drive and Old Stilesboro Road in Acworth, police said.

Investigators suspect speeding and alcohol might have been contributing factors in the crash, Pierce said. Anyone with information is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
