The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. Unit is investigating the pedestrian fatality that occurred on Cumberland Parkway east of South Cobb Drive in Smyrna just before 9 p.m. Monday.
A release from police states that the driver of a 2011 Dodge Charger, who was identified as Danielle Simmons, 32, of Atlanta, was heading east on Cumberland when the pedestrian walked into the street.
The pedestrian was identified as Angie C. Scroggins, 79, of Smyrna. She was taken to Emory Adventist Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Scroggins was reportedly crossing the road in an area where a crosswalk wasn’t marked.
Investigators don’t expect to file charges against Simmons.

Marietta Police identify hit-and-run victim
Marietta Police have identified the bicyclist involved in a hit-and-run Sunday night.
Lawrence Joseph Young, 55, of Marietta was riding his bicycle south on Powder Springs Street near the intersection with Natchez Trace when he was hit by a black SUV.
Officer David Baldwin with Marietta Police said there are no updates on the driver in the fatal hit-and-run, but the driver of a black Cadillac Escalade they were searching for has contacted police and is cooperating with the investigation.
Police say it could take a few days before they decide whether to file any charges against the driver of the SUV.
