UPDATE: Marietta police Officer David Baldwin says Sunday’s shooting at the Laurel Hills Preserve apartment complex has left the 28-year-old victim in the hospital with a “serious but non-life threating injury” after she was shot in the abdomen.

The alleged shooter, Melissa Horton, 30, from Marietta was arrested at the scene. The shooting apparently happened during a verbal and physical altercation when the gun inadvertently went off.

MARIETTA — A woman was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital on Sunday after an altercation that ended in a shooting.

Two women who knew one another were arguing when one shot the other, said Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin. The shooting took place on Bells Ferry Road just east of Interstate 75 and west of Barrett Parkway.

“It sounds like there was some type of an argument or disagreement, whatever it was, some type of altercation ensued,” Baldwin said.

The alleged shooter was in custody Sunday afternoon.

Baldwin could not provide the names of those involved or the condition of the victim.
