Jeanette Elizabeth Watkins is amazing. She is 100 years young, but you would never know it.

Born on April 12, 1913, this Marietta native is the daughter of Sally and William Ward Watkins Jr. At one time, William Watkins was a deputy sheriff of Cobb County. Jeanette, who graduated from Marietta High School in 1930, married Ernest Robert Sanders, a former Marietta police chief, on April 12, 1933. They had one daughter, Beverly Raines, two grandchildren Kevin Raines and Alicia Naumik, and two great grandchildren, Morgan Raines and Kaitlin Naumik. Jeanette has attended First United Methodist Church of Marietta (off the Marietta Square) for 91 years. She is the oldest living member of FUMC.

When asked how she felt about turning 100 she said, “I don’t think very much about it at all, I don’t feel that old.”

The seven performers cast in Polk Street Players’ production of A.R. Gurney’s “The Dining Room” take on multiple personas as they each create numerous characters in this acclaimed comedy/drama. Directed by Mary Nimsgern, the ensemble includes Evan Weisman, Andy Ward, John Mistretta, Tracey Egan, Kellen Jahn, Kimberley Lowe and Karina Matechak. The funny, ultimately moving play is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes taking place in the dining room of an upper-middle-class home and coalescing into a theatrical experience of humor and humanity.

On the Stellar Cellar stage, 161 Church St. (at St. James’ Episcopal Church), on May 3 to 18. For show times and ticket information, visit www.polkstreetplayers.org or call (770) 218-9669.
