ACWORTH — The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed Thursday two people discovered dead in a west Cobb home were killed in a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Cobb County Police Department was called to the Benbrooke subdivision, which is off County Line Road between Burnt Hickory and Due West roads, south of Acworth.

Police discovered the body of Susan Sheriff, 45, who had been shot by her husband, Christopher Kpendema, 49, who was also found dead in the basement of the Benbrooke Drive home, said Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

The 18-year-old son of the couple had called police to report the shooting.

Pierce said there had been a prior history of violence between the couple.

Neighbors said there were eight or nine people living in the house, a combination of extended family members and friends.

Pierce said the couple were staying in the house, but did not know for how long or from where the couple had moved.

Kpendema is the brother of Saphi Kobb-Bangurah, who bought the home 10 years ago with his wife, Sahr.

On the corner, before entering Benbrooke Drive is the County Line United Methodist Church with a tall white steeple and a small cemetery.

The house is light-tan brick with manicured miniature trees and a bright-pink rose bush by the front porch. It is valued at just more than $322,000 by the Cobb County Tax Assessor’s Office.

Tammy Schadl, who has lived across the street for 14 years, said the Bangurahs built their home more than 10 years ago and had three daughters, with the youngest in high school.

In recent years, the Bangurahs were allowing other family members and friends to stay at the home, some who also had children in Cobb County schools.

“We have been concerned about comings and goings,” Schadl said.

Schadl said she even reached out to her homeowner’s association for help. Schadl added she was surprised that the people in the home were relatives of the Bangurahs.

Every day, there are cars and moving trucks at the house, many with out-of-state license plates, Schadl said.

On Wednesday afternoon, there was a car parked in the driveway with a Pennsylvania license plate.

I just found out now that Christopher and his wife died. They were neighbors in Pennsylvania. I hope Tony or Jonathan can contact me. Oh my God. I am really concerned about the young daughter Christina.
