University of Mississippi accountancy graduate student Alyssa Marie Green of Marietta has been awarded the KPMG Peat Marwick Fellowship in the Patterson School of Accountancy. She is slated to complete a master’s degree in May 2013.

Green completed a bachelor’s degree in May and received the Mississippi Society of CPAs Outstanding Senior Award. She achieved membership in Beta Gamma Sigma and in Phi Kappa Phi, the university’s highest academic honor across all disciplines; and was recipient of the Accountancy Alumni Chapter Academic Achievement Award. She also held the Dean of Accountancy Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship and Provost Scholarship.

A graduate of Lassiter High School in Marietta, she is the daughter of Benton and Debbie Green.

Vintage Vocals, a women’s trio out of North Georgia is on the road again. As you may recall, they recently performed impromptu with Doc Cudd, master iron craftsman who draws musical pitches out of his anvil, at Biltmore Estate’s Antler Hill Village as reported by Lifestyle on Nov. 14. On Nov. 10, the group traveled to Plains, singing for the festivities in town that included veterans, officials and former President Jimmy Carter.

The Sam Shortline Excursion Train that arranged performances by Vintage Vocals on the train and at Plains, made a special run exclusively to Plains that day to transport people to the celebration and to pick up a group of cyclists who had set out from Alabama earlier that morning to meet the train in Plains.

The crew loaded the cyclists and their bikes aboard after the ceremonies and transported everyone back to Georgia Veterans State Park in Crisp for debarkation where the singers strolled from car to car and sang their little hearts out after serenading former President Carter on the bandstand.

Vintage Vocal’s next public performance is Dec. 15 at the Atlanta History Center (130 West Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, 30305, at the intersection of Andrews Drive) in the amphitheater at noon and 2 p.m. where they will perform Christmas carols popular during the Civil War to WWII era.
