MARIETTA – Police in Marietta have arrested a 31-year-old Marietta man in connection with multiple sexual offenses against a minor child.

Isuru Pasan Perera was arrested Saturday on charges of felony first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and computer pornography and misdemeanor sexual battery and distribution of obscene material. He remains in the Cobb County Jail without bond.

According to the police release, the original incident occurred in June 2010 when the female juvenile victim attended the Champion Softball Complex located at 505 Commerce Park Dr. Perera, who was the victim’s coach and trainer, used his position to coerce and intimidate the victim to commit multiple sexual acts against her.

“Numerous sexual assaults against the victim occurred over a two-year time frame,” the release states. “Every assault occurred in Perera’s office at the complex.”

The local department is concerned there may be other unreported victims of Perera and wants anyone with information to contact Detective Moeller at (770) 794-2366.

As concerned as I am about this whole situation, can someone please clarify that this individual is not a softball coach; he was a paid personal trainer working at a training facility that specializes in Softball, but he also trained adults.
