MARIETTA — A Marietta man has been sentenced in a case the FBI says leaves veteran officers speechless.

Corey Charles Plunkett, 27, will serve 12 years in prison after sending a pornographic image of his 1-year-old daughter to an undercover officer, according to U.S. attorney Sally Quillian Yates.

Yates said the officer was contacted by Plunkett in September on a website known for attracting individuals interested in activities associated with child exploitation. Plunkett sent a pornographic image of his daughter to the officer, and that image was later recovered by authorities at Plunkett’s home in Cobb County.

“Distribution of child pornography is in and of itself a heinous crime,” Yates said. “This case is all the more disturbing because the victim was the defendant’s 1-year-old daughter. We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who exploit our children.”

J. Britt Johnson with the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office added, “To see a case such as this where the child’s father was sexually exploiting his own child leaves many of our seasoned investigators without words.”

Once Plunkett is released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender and, as part of his sentence set by United States District Judge Steve C. Jones, undergo supervised release for the rest of his life.

Yates’ office said the case was investigated by the FBI and the Cobb County Police Department. It was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
