Tantalize your taste buds while supporting a good cause. Go to Marietta Wine Market in Marietta on Saturday for a wine-tasting.

Twice a week on Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., Marietta Wine Market hosts a wine-tasting.

“Every time we do a tasting, it’s for a different charity,” said Randall Heard, who opened the market with wife Karen in May 2005.

On Saturday, the wine-tasting benefits Atlanta Pet Rescue.

“You can’t go wrong with pets or children,” Heard said.

“We thought it would be a good idea when we got into the wine-tasting events to turn it into a charity event. It draws people in from our clientele but helps support that charity, too. It helps more people find us every day,” he said.

Marietta Wine Market is a find for those who do not already frequent the boutique. There are no metal racks with stacks of wine in every inch of the establishment. A couch and television give the market a homey feel and the couple’s 14-year-old springer spaniel, Bentley, is there to greet guests at the door.

“It’s cozy and very comfortable. It looks like an old world-style wine shop,” Heard said.

The market features 500 wines, including 75 local wines.

“We carry more local wines than probably anybody in the state. We like to feature the local wineries around Georgia,” he said.

Meats, cheeses, craft beers and gift items are also offered at the market where the wines are reasonably priced.

“Our wines are priced at or below most wine stores,” said Heard, a Marietta resident.

The market is small but always busy hosting a variety of events such as regular wine tours abroad and in the U.S., private parties and dinners.

“It’s good to be busy,” Randall said.

The Marietta Wine Market is at 18 Powder Springs St., Marietta. To learn more about Marietta Wine Market, visit mariettawinemarket.com or call (770) 919-1574.
