The Marietta Fire Department is currently investigating an arson that occurred early Tuesday at the Sun Inn at 871 Cobb Parkway North.

Fire Department crews responded at approximately 2:45 a.m. Tuesday and observed visible flames showing from the two-story motel.

Initial investigation revealed that the fire was deliberately set, according to Marietta police.

Marietta Fire investigators identified a suspect, Carlous Deushawn Banks, 37, of Atlanta. Banks was arrested on scene and charged with first degree arson.

The case is still under investigation, and additional charges could be pending.

The fire caused approximately $50,000 in damage to the hotel. A number of motel guests were displaced because of the fire, but the motel management was able to provide additional rooms.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Asst. Chief Scott Tucker at (770) 794-5463.
