From staff reports

The Atlanta South Comic Con will play host to the Marietta Comic and Anime Convention on Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn on Windy Hill Road from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is a family fun event,” Joanne Padgett, the author of “Vampires of Camelot,” said. “All different age groups come for the fun.”

The convention will feature at least 14 different writers including Padgett, Roy Richardson, the author of the Marvel Star Wars story, and comic artist Tracy Yardley among many other prominent writers and comic artists.

Padgett said there would be about 200 to 300 people in attendance at this weekend’s event. She also said this is the first year the event will take place outside of Atlanta.

“This is the first year we’re having it in Marietta,” Padgett said. “We’re moving it out of Atlanta because there’s more to Georgia than just Atlanta.”

The conference will also feature Mark Teems, a zombie from the popular television series “The Walking Dead.” Teems will sign photos at the conference.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up as a super hero or villain to participate in the cash prize costume contest.

Regular admission tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 and children younger than 5 are free of charge. The convention also provides an option for attendees to purchase tickets in advance online through their website, atlantasouthcomiccon.com, for $6. In addition to regular admission tickets, convention attendees can purchase VIP early bird gold tickets for $9, which allow attendees to enter the convention 30 minutes before regular admission ticket holders.
