METTER, Ga. (AP) — State officials are investigating a fire that claimed the life of a 65-year-old man in Candler County.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said investigators believe the Sunday morning fire was accidental. Hudgens’ office said in a statement that the blaze was started by the victim smoking while using oxygen.

Killed in the fire was Harold Rowland of Metter. The town is about 60 miles northwest of Savannah.

State officials say that in 2012, three people died in Georgia house fires as a result of smoking while oxygen was in use.
