The event was organized by the Cobb County branch of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a national organization cofounded by Dr. King.
Volunteers from groups like the SCLC, the U.S. Coast Guard, Emmanuel Tabernacle Christian Church and Omega Psi Phi fraternity served a lunch of baked chicken, side dishes and dessert to 100 of the shelter’s consumers.
The meals were among the 82,000 the shelter serves annually.
