Donald F. Marshall, D.D.S. age 86 of Smyrna, passed away Wednesday, June 19th. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. “Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes” was the lifelong motto of Dr. Don Marshall. Living in New Zealand for two years with his Salvation Army parents, he got a taste for travel that eventually took him to 98 different countries, many of them medical missionary destinations. A graduate of the Baltimore College of Dentistry, he practiced in Smyrna for roughly 40 years before turning the practice over to his youngest son and daughter. Dr. Marshall served on the board of 3 hospitals, 2 banks and held lifelong membership in Smyrna Lion’s Club and Golden K. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Smyrna and held leadership positions in that capacity as well as the local and district dental groups. He leaves behind a wife, Janice and children, Kurt Marshall, Robert Marshall, Richard Marshall, Dr. Scott Marshall and Dr. Barbara Williford as well as eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 22nd at Smyrna First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Hatchell officiating. Entombment will be in the Abbey at Westview Cemetery.
