The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation in partnership with the General Mills Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000 to Lovinggood Middle School in Powder Springs for the Champions for Healthy Kids program.
More than 1,200 organizations applied for the grant, and Lovinggood was one of 50 national recipients. The Lovinggood Champions for Wellness Team which includes the Physical Education Department teachers Jodi Kruta, Rita Forsythe, Mike Sides and Tony Morgan and the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, Dawn Castleberry, developed the grant application along with a program to help Lovinggood’s students improve their nutrition and fitness behaviors. This program targets the 1400 students at Lovinggood Middle School and the neighboring community by constructing a 1/4 mile track to surround the school’s exercise field. General Mill Champions for Healthy Kids, a partnership with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, is a comprehensive initiative to help youth improve their nutrition and fitness behaviors through grants to community organizations and schools that develop innovative programs.
