DEAR EDITOR:

From the very beginning of the multi-member board of commissioners in Cobb County there has been an unwritten understanding that appointments made by any commissioner to serve a public interest would be supported by the entire board. The understanding is based on respect for fellow commissioners and the need to serve all county residents. This unwritten policy has served Cobb County well and through the many years, there have only been two proposed appointments that have been rejected and the leader of these proposed appointments has been the same person — (present Commission Chairman) Tim Lee!

Commissioner Bob Ott proposed to appoint former Commissioner Thea Powell to an oversight position and Lee coordinated enough votes to defeat the appointment. Last week, Commissioner Lisa Cupid proposed to appoint (anti-SPLOST leader) Lance Lamberton to a SPLOST oversight committee. Tim Lee is coordinating opposition to the proposed appointment once again.

Commissioners Ott and Cupid have earned the respect and support of their constituents and their appointments must be honored. Lee is clearly showing a vindictive personality with his coordinated opposition to other commissioners’ appointments and his efforts must be rejected.

Cobb County needs leadership more than ever, in these times and Lee has failed once again.

I urge the four district commissioners to support Commissioner Cupid with her proposed appointment of Lamberton at the next commission meeting.

Bill Byrne

Marietta

(Editor’s note: Mr. Byrne is a former chairman of the Cobb Board of Commissioners and was defeated by Lee last year in his quest to regain that office.)

Bill's letter is comical for several reasons. Commissioners Ott and Cupid have earned the respect of their consititutes? Ott perhaps talked Cupid into appointment Lamberton to this position. I suspect Cupid didn't have a clue who or what Lamberton is. Lamberton's motto is "no taxes, no government, no nothing". Cobb is bigger and greater than Lamberton will ever hope to be.

I loved the "meeting in a grocery store" story when first published. Yea right! This equates to Ott setting them both up like he did King on the immigration crap.

Cupid appears to be a smart person but is clueless to how the County runs. The fact it took her 6 months to appoint is dispressing. she needs to learn that the government works 25/8. she event stated after a recent commission meeting that she was going to take some time off and "reflect on her first 6 months". There isn't much to reflect on since it took 6 months just to appoint folks to existing committees and boards. if that is a reflection of her abilities, then we don't have much to look forward to over the next three years.

And now back to Bill. His 5 minutes of fame was over years ago. If he were Chairman now, he would be dictating to Ott and Cupid what and when and how. It was Bill who once stated that Ott needed a bullet to the head. Do we realy need someone like that as Chairman again. NEGATIVE!

Bill, tend to your horses in Polk County since you told their court that you didn't like Cobb County. You and we would be better off if you stayed there.

To Wise Lee and Lee Wise: You could repeat the same drivel under a dozen different names and it would still be drivel.

I am not a fan of Byrne. Never have been, but you have to give the devil his due. He got this one right.

Tim Lee is a pompous, overbearing nincompoop, He is owned by, and is a gofer for, the Chamber of Commerce gang. He cares not a whit for Cobb County or the citizens thereof. He does not want anyone around him with the gonads to challenge him.

Lisa Cupid should have told him to kiss her behind.

He is only the Commission Chairman, not a the King of Cobb County.

Chairman Lee has made wise-recommendations on both of these candidates mentioned, Mr. Bryne. A committee's effectiveness in carrying out it's mission can be so easily be side-tracked by a long-winded opponent of everything. Once a mission is in place, it is usually preferred to place on it only those in favor of the mission itself. Little is gained by the distractions of the negative voice, nor of the gratification of the obstructionist gaining free press. If Lamberton serves on the oversight committee, the outcome hopefully will be the same as without him, but valuable time will be wasted. Meanwhile, one can hope that the newest commissioner will learn that she, too, sometimes delays progress even when well-intentioned. However, the other commissioner mentioned is frequently seen as purely seeking publicity.
