Lawyer Scott Semrau says 52-year-old Dannie Albert Mondor provided the Atlanta officer with information about the crash and his personal information.
Semrau called the charges the result of a lack of communication between the two departments.
Mondor, a Canadian citizen, turned himself in Tuesday after police located his recreational vehicle in Cape Coral, Fla., and contacted him.
Police said the RV struck a Toyota Camry on Interstate 75 northwest of Atlanta Saturday. The Camry struck a Prius, which hit the median and flipped. Killed was 40-year-old Bradley Braland of Winter Garden, Fla.
