The free event is the first in a planned series of exchanges aimed at engaging the campus community in discussing popular and controversial social issues.
The “Marketplace of Ideas” series will focus on involving KSU students, faculty and the community-at-large in an exchange of ideas. The first forum will feature Jonathan Imber, the Jean Glasscock professor of sociology at Wellesley College, who will present “On Teaching Conservatism.” Imber’s address will be followed by “The Great Debate I: Obamacare (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) — Yes or No?”
Melvyn Fein, professor of sociology at KSU, and Kenneth White, assistant professor of political science and criminal justice at KSU, will present the “red” and “blue” political perspectives on the legislation, respectively. The debate will be moderated by Robert H. “Robin” Dorff, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KSU.
