Sandra Struss Knight, 75, of Marietta, Georgia died Saturday, December 3, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born October 26, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky to Willella and William Struss. Known affectionately as Nana to her grandchildren, Mrs. Knight graduated with a masters degree from Western Kentucky University in 1959. She taught English and Physical Education for many years and was the first swim coach for Walton High School. In 1983, she lead the boys’ team to a state victory. In addition, she helped organize other high school swim teams. She held many leadership positions with the Cobb County Parks and Recreation swim league and was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1996 for her efforts. Mrs. Knight is survived by her children, Tammy Bryant of Marietta; Bobby Knight and wife Leigh of Newnan; Terri Farley and husband Richard of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren, Drew and Abby Bryant; Chastity, Ansley and Carson Knight, and Alex, Zach and Sydney Farley. She is survived by a brother, Sonny Struss of Boone, North Carolina; sister, Brenda Monin of Hardinsburg, Kentucky; and loving dogs, Bear and Brodie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert H. Knight. The memorial service will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mem.com.
