The 11th annual Marietta/Cobb Career Expo, at the Cobb County Civic Center on the corner of Fairground Street and South Marietta Parkway, had 80 booths filled with recruiters.
The career fair was put on by City Councilman Anthony Coleman, Cobbworks Inc. and the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.
If the length of the line snaking around the Civic Center on Wednesday was any indication, the local job market is anything but robust.
The unemployment rate for Cobb County stood at 7.7 percent in July, compared to 8.0 in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Large corporations participating in the job fair included AT&T, Comcast, Staples, McDonald’s, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Home Depot. Several major hotel chains such as Westin, Hampton Inn and Hyatt Regency also were on site offering information about available positions, as was the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
A few local employers also made a showing at the fair, including Family First Dentistry of Marietta and Chisel Printing & Media Co., along with staffing agencies like Manpower and Express Employment Professionals.
