Ben Andrew Jordan, age 80, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. He was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1932 at the Map Place in Wilkes County Georgia. He was the son of the late Wiley Edward Jordan, Sr. and the late Reece Adams Jordan. Ben was predeceased by his 6 sisters and five brothers. Ben enlisted in the Army at 15 and later the Air Force after graduating from Royston High School. After graduation he married Mary Ann Mize Jordan. They have been married for 61 years. Ben graduated from the University of Georgia and Northwestern University. After that, he embarked upon a career in law enforcement that included serving as a Chief of Police, a State Trooper as well as the Director of the Office of Highway Safety for the state of Georgia. He also worked in the Federal Government with LEAA. Ben retired from his career in law enforcement as the superintendent of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA. This was a facility he envisioned and worked tirelessly to have established. Ben served directly under five governors for the state of Georgia. Ben is survived by his four children, David Jordan of Ball Ground, GA, Mark Jordan of Dahlonega, GA, Andrea Jordan Wendt of Kennesaw, GA and Eric Jordan of Kennesaw, GA and their Spouses. With four children, eleven grandchildren and four great granddaughters, Ben spent many enjoyable moments building memories, while he and Mary Ann frequently enjoyed their family at St Simons Island, where Ben sailed his favorite boat or the River House by the Coosawatee in Ellijay, or in West Cobb where they settled in ‘74. Everywhere he visited he enjoyed the new knowledge, history and culture of the people. Many who knew him valued the friendship that he gave. Many who never knew him benefitted from his integrity and honor, working in all levels of Law Enforcement and for the many more to come there will be few who honored the Seal of the Great State of Georgia as he did. Funeral services will be held on 2:00pm Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Macland location of Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home.
