Ray Trent Johnston, 91, of Powder Springs, died Sunday, June 09, 2013. Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory, Macland Chapel, in Powder Springs with Chaplain Matthew Alexander officiating. Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Born in LaGrange, Ga., Mr. Johnston grew up in Tifton, Ga., and has been living in Powder Springs since 1974. He worked for East Coast Railroad in Florida from 1946 to 1959. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp’s from May 21, 1941, to May 23, 1946, serving in the Boston Navy Yard during WWII and in the South Pacific, and he worked for Home Transportation in Marietta until he retired. Husband of the late Hazel Burke Johnston. Father of Linda Starke of Morganton, Ga., and Kenneth (Buddy) Johnston of Powder Springs. Grandfather of Rebecca Hubner, Eric Starke and the late Cary Starke. Brother of Ben (Bonnie) Johnston, Mike (Marion) Johnston, Pete (Mary Alice) Johnston, and Lola Mae Davis, all of Tifton, Ga. Sadly missed by caregivers and friends Cynthia and Michael Mercure. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, and 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. mayeswarddobbins.com.
