Is D’Souza right about Obama and colonialism?

I had not intended to go. Judging from the advertisements, Dinesh D’Souza’s new movie “2016” seemed to be an exercise in propaganda. Besides, the reviews I had read of the book upon which it is based appeared to be advocating a silly thesis about why Barack Obama is the way he is.

Then a friend told me she saw it and that it was a powerful piece of cinema. Since I value her opinion, I decided I had to go, but I expected that only a few people would want to see so ideologically slanted an effort.

Theater owners apparently came to the same conclusion, and hence the multiplex my wife and I attended was showing the film on just one screen. Thus, we arrived about 15 minutes early on the assumption there would be many seats to choose from. This turned out to be a mistake.

I cannot remember a movie theater that was more crowded. Eventually almost every seat was filled, including the ones up front. Then, after the film began, the mostly middle aged audience paid rapt attention. Nary a sound could be heard as this riveting testimonial to one man’s vision unfolded.

D’Souza, who is an immigrant from India, comes to the conclusion that Obama is motivated primarily by anti-colonialist sentiments. According to D’Souza, as the son of a father who was dedicated to ejecting the British colonialists from his Kenya homeland, Barack too is biased against first-world oppressors.

Dinesh then extrapolates from this insight to make sense of Obama’s attitude toward the United States’ place in the world. If our president identifies our country with the colonialists — as his father did — then he should perceive us as an overbearing country whose wings deserve to be clipped.

Assuming America is not an exceptional country, and Barack has pointedly denied that it is, it merits neither military nor economic supremacy. Its armies need to return home to be demobilized, while its wealth has to be scaled back and redistributed so as to curb its imperialist pretentions.

This seems to me to be an extreme hypothesis, but one for which D’Souza marshals a great deal of persuasive evidence. Indeed, much of it is so convincing that it took one’s breath away and made one fear for the safety of our nation — that is, should there be a second Obama term in office.

Although I still believe this anti-colonialist theory does not tell the whole story, I have now come to agree that it probably explains part of it. One reason I have changed my mind is that it echoes my relationship with my own father.

My father was a harsh man. He was physically powerful and occasionally abusive. Nevertheless I loved him dearly. His emotional honesty, plus the fact that I knew he loved me, combined to make me sympathetic regarding his many failures.

As a result, when he was in his deathbed, I visited him to wish him a tearful farewell. There he lay, his once formidable strength ebbing away, preparing to meet his end. We immediately clasped arms and I silently, with my eyes, vowed that I would finish the work he had not been able to complete.

I meant it back then — and I feel it to this day. It therefore made sense to me that Barack might harbor a similar attitude toward his absent, and also not very successful, father. Even though his dad was an imperfect human being — or maybe because of it — he would feel compelled to fulfill his mission.

Of course, Mitt Romney also seems intent on realizing his father’s agenda. Whatever he says about his motivation, a desire to reach an office his father could not appears to be one of his objectives. So does returning our nation’s grandeur.

Sadly, few liberals will have an opportunity to assess D’Souza’s theory for themselves. Having prejudged it, they will stay away in droves.

You know who else was an anti-colonialist? George Washington. Catch the shocking truth in my new movie 1792.

I saw the movie, and his theory on Obama and coloniasism might be correct or not. Only POTUS knows. But the most take away points from the movie are facts that cannot be denied. Facts that make Obama ineligble for security clearance in these Unites States but anywhere else in the world. For example: His associations with Frank Marshall (head of the US communist Party), William Ayers (terrorist bomber of the USA), Head of Hammas, a professor (and good friend) at Columbia that calls for the overthrow of the US goverment, Reverand J Wright in Chicago who lead a church that is for what Obama father preached, his mother who was a hater of the USA, and few other associations. These facts were unknown to most of the people who voted for him. Obama never mentioned these, and the media hid them. Movie also points out that this is the first president that little was known about. He makes a compelling point in the movie too regarding this.

This was the take away from the movie, not the theories but the facts.

I am amazed that so many people need books and movies to reinforce their own common sense and gut feelings about Obama.

It was obvious that Obama was going to be bad for this country before he was elected.

His performance and attitude since he was elected has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

What is disheartening is that their are approximately 50% of the voting population in this country that actually concur with his ideologies and support his policies that consistently weaken our country.

That 50% of our fellow Americans who want to see this great country relinquish its' leadership role in the world is what worries me, not Obama.

D'Souza's film is a political tract aimed at those who lack information about domestic and global politics. Its mission is to make sure Obama is not re-elected by convincing these voters that Obama is, subconsciously, not an American. Freud placed his patients on a couch. D’Souza probes Obama’s subconscious with a computer in Indonesia and Kenya. The film’s Box Office success testifies to the waning of the written word in the US—don’t read, watch. Three sets of interests groups combined to produce this film: (1) lobbyists desperate for a president that would support Mr. Netanyahu’s plan to rain bombs on Iran ASAP. Obama opposes this plan, and so he must go; (2) the Birther Movement that cannot stand a "black man" as president of the United States; and (3) a Catholic fringe group that has doubts about Obama’s religious beliefs. D’Souza is well-rewarded to produce “2016; Obama’s America,” becoming president of King’s College (a Christian college) with only a BA degree. D’Souza has praised the British colonization of his native India, claiming that it benefited him in that he learned a great language, English. (for descriptions of the famines and homicidal economic policies during British rule in India, see http://www.gatewayforindia.com/history/british_history3.htm). Dinesh D’Souza has also supported the invasion of Iraq (civilian deaths are 120,000, and counting). In his book, The End of Racism, D’Souza imputed certain traits of mind to African Americans, suggesting that their low IQ can be traced to cultural deficiencies. Similarly, in The Roots of Obama’s Rage, D’Souza imputes “rage” to Barack Obama. There is no evidence that Obama has any rage. On the contrary, he is generally seen as cool and suave. Dinesh D’Souza is indifferent to Anglo-American homicides in India, Kenya, and Iraq. He cannot understand how anyone could be critical of colonialism. After all, many Indians, Kenyans, and Iraqis now speak English. Do they not? D’Souza is especially angry at Barack Obama. How can Obama, who speaks English so well, how can be so ungrateful? How dare he side with the Kenyan part of his ancestors, his father? Convinced that the behaviors of Africans and African Americans are based on negative reflexes, not reasoning, D’Souza constructs an Obama moved not by humane ideals or patriotism, but Kenyan anti-colonialism. As Sarah Palin had argued earlier Obama “is not like us.” Americans, you have a Kenyan Trojan Horse in your midst!! How on earth did he get into the White House? This “empty chair” must be a “hoax,” to cite Clint Eastwood. Romney would prefer to have Bill Clinton, for all his moral failings, back in the White House. And Romney has nothing but praise for Birther-in-Chief, Donald Trump. Palin, Trump, Romney, Ryan, D’Souza, and Eastwood represent an historic rage against an intellectually confident and autonomous person D’Souza fictionalizes as a Kenyan. They are in a win-win situation. The personal caricatures—“Hitler,” “black mascot,” “racist,” jackass,” “liar,” “communist”. . . –should be taking an emotional toll on Barack Obama. Move forward, America.

I am not quite sure how to answer the allegations within this comment. which to keep it short are incredulous. Your comment about don't read watch, is a testament to our overpriced under performing educatuion system whose members are almost overwhelmingly Obama supporters.

Obama is the most unqualified person to hold this office in modern times and in the recent past would be on an FBI watch list based upon his open association with well known anti-American Marxists, communists and left-wing radicals whose stated intention is the destruction of this country as we know it and as it was conceived by our founders. This president, has ruled by fiat, through executive orders, contrary to the will of the people. The current health care reform "Obama Care" should have been ruled unconstitutational not for what is in it, but how it was passed. The most idiotic statement issued by a political figure I've ever heard was by the Speaker of the House when she uttered those imortal words "you have to pass it to see what's in it".

Obama is anti -American and should be impeached for and convicted for treason. I don't know what your idea of the "domestic/global politics but I believe in making sure that it doesn't damage America's credibility, status, or security as appearantly you don't. Didn't you hear the comment the President of The United States made to the Russian president in regards to nuclear arms control "I can do more when I re-elected" I'm glad that was captured. This man is a lair, imposter, cheat, and traitor, but I just call them as I see them.

I'll end my retort before I get too long, because brother I could go on forever.

Sir -- please. You MUST be joking. To give any sort of credence to this ridiculously far-fetched premise that is supported by nothing, NOTHING, in terms of the words or attitudes of the interviewees? Those absurd claims, the same as in his book, were refuted and debunked long ago.

It's people like you, jumping in on the crazy hysteria, who encourage others, not as educated or talented, and perhaps not as intelligent, as you, to wave around this clap-trap.

Honestly, for you to write this is like yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater. People become frantic and someone will likely get hurt. Shame on you.

The desperate defensive bleatings of the blind, anti American Obama crowd notwithstanding, D'Souza has hit it again on the head. Obama has American citizenship; he is not American. He is third world and doesn't like America being big. He will do whatever is required, that he can get away with, with the help of fools like John Conyers or cowards like Russ Feingold but in the end he too will be deposed and we will recover. I only hope we don't have to be four MORE years in the hole first. I DO note that this election there are fewer Obama stickers on autos. The foolish cowardly left may continue to vote for an anti American racist disaster in the White House, but they aren't waving flags, so to speak. Guess even they don't want to be IDENTIFIED as the anti American left wing commie loving ENEMY they truly are.

I consider myself a liberal AND a patriot. Your comment is offensive to me as I served two tours in Viet Nam and volunteered for a third but was denied and sent home. Since coming home I have worked in the finance industry and seen Wall Street running rough shod over victims of their perfidy to the point that my politics have radically changed and I consider your Indian Guru a bleating Uncle Tom. Thanks to Romney and his ilk, Indians are overrunning this country and taking our jobs. Obama is the only salvation since a vote for Ron Paul is a vote thrown aaway.

D'Souza does what Fein does. He makes unsubstantiated allegations as he strains to "connect the dots" for his like-minded viewers. The movie's been fact-checked and discredited along with D'Souza's earlier book.

As George Costanza told Jerry Seinfeld, "If you believe it then it isn't a lie."

Can you please provide specific examples on the fact-checking and the discrediting that you mention regarding the movie 2016 and D'Souza's book? Who made these claims? What are they? What evidence/sources did they provide? I've read some of the comments floating out there--but, you know, secondary sources are just that--secondary--typically commentary with some research but little in the way of primary documentation-- so we as viewers or readers are left with little info to evaluate and substantiate on our own. Now, that's scary. D'Souza did his homework. He is a researcher, and as a professional he knew he would face attack regardless--so, of course, he checked and double checked his primary sources before putting anything out there. We owe it to ourselves to check the accuracy of what we view and what we read. Otherwise, we can all be manipulated.

Domani (whoever you are) - If I show you one unsubstantiated allegation then it calls into question D'Souza's entire thesis, right?

D'Souza says Obama is sympathetic to jihadists. If that's true, why has he killed so many of them?

It is my strong belief that all of us are greatly influenced and our values formed by what happens to us in our early years. I have believed D'Sousa was right on it, from the very first. This man, Obama, had no real ties to this country. He is obviously not particularly patriotic. Twenty years listening to Jeremiah Wright? Please! How can anyone vote for him? Are people just burying their heads in the sand?

all of us ... you said: "This man, Obama, had no real ties to this country". That's your argument? Honestly? It's a very strong statement. Now back it up .. please explain .. be specific .. give details. "this man, Obama"? Wow.

You don't necessarily have to follow your father's footstep. What exactly is your own dream in life? I am not a fan of Obama. Don't forget that this is an election year! If you are not aware, people make their money especially in-times like this. So if you have your own story, you can sell it, people will also by it. Its all about being smart. I saw the movie and i didn't see any thing spectacular from it. You can fact check most of Dinesh D.Souza lies from mediamatter.com. Or do more research on Google. Like i said i am not a fan of obama, but i hate it when people can not think of fend for truth for themselves. If anyone comes tomorrow again and say Romney is a devil incarnate, then you'll see how crazy people will pursue the story. There is no leadership that is free from criticism. Even people in their finite mind think and call God EVIL GOD.

My family saw the movie last night. Fortunately, I researched many of the items (true facts) before we went to the movie. If we continue to follow Obama's example of spending money our country is facing serious consequences. I have voted for democrats in my lifetime but I will not vote for Obama. If invididuals cannot read between the line and open their eyes our country is in serious trouble. This will be America's problem, not Obama's. Research and draw your own conclusions but check factual sites. Government sites are a good place to start with showing how far in debt this country is and has grown in the last 4 years. Don't just talk, research and help our country please! I am not panicked but saddened that more Americans are not standing up to find the truth.
