How to get Goldstein out of office?

DEAR EDITOR:

After reading numerous articles regarding Marietta Councilman Philip Goldstein vs. Mayor Steve Tumlin, I was wondering if you could answer a very basic question: Why is Mr. Goldstein still in office? It is blatantly clear that he has no regard for the citizens of Marietta nor for the office of our Mayor.

His past actions (i.e.; using taxpayers’ money to bring legal suit against our city, etc.) speak volumes about his poor character, which is incompatible with the values we citizens of Marietta hold in esteem.

So, again, I ask: Why is he still in office and how do we get him out?

Ms. Kalish, I am no Goldstein fan or hater. That said, if you want to get Mr. Goldstein out of office, the answer, known to informed Cobb Citizens, is: vote him out of office.

As for your assertion that Mr. Goldstein has used taxpayer funds to bring suit against the city, how about explaining just how he did this? My guess, you are a clueless bird with no idea of what you are talking about. Thus, you won't be able to explain.

You, like many others in Marietta, may not like Mr. Goldstein. And you may not like that he has been blessed with so much property in the Marietta area. (And you probably do not appreciate how much tax money he pays into the city coffers, either). But, for goodness sake, how about not letting your envy push you into spouting such mindless rants in public. In other words...get a grip.

Why aren't there term limits on these people? Goldstein has never, so far as I can remember, ever really done anything for his community. Very sad and disappointing to have a person in office for years, who is only using the system for his own agenda. Very self-serving.

Goldstein has contributed to the community in a lot of ways. The Strand would not be in operation were it not for he and his family. Most of downtown and the square would have gone to ruin years ago, had the Goldsteain family not bought it up. Sure they made money on it. That is called smart investing, and the last time I looked, it was not a crime. But, the advantage to the community is the same whether they made money or lost money.

They pay more property taxes than anyone else in Marietta.

As to being in politics to further his own agenda, show me a politician who is not in it to further his own agenda, and I will show you someone who has you fooled.

Finally, in response to the question put to Mayor Tumlin (who is also in politics to furthet his own adenda), Goldstein continues to get voted into office obviously because he pleases his constituents.
