Carl A. Hughes, Jr., known as “Jimmy”, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the age of 88. Carl was married to the love of his life, Margaret Mary Hughes, for 39 years before she died in 2005 after a long battle with breast cancer. He is survived by his children - Martha Cesario, Mark Cesario, Leslie Meiere, Chris Hughes, several grandchildren and one great grandson. Carl was born to Carl A. Hughes, Sr. and Ollie Rebecca Hughes on October 10, 1924 in Decatur, GA where he attended the Methodist Church and graduated from Decatur High School. His two sisters, Ruth Hughes Hull and Reba Hughes Rogers, predeceased him. Carl graduated from Georgia Tech in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and then joined the Navy where he served as a pilot and flight instructor. He returned to GA in 1954 and joined Lockheed, where he worked first as an engineer and then as a test pilot until his retirement in 1986. He was instrumental in the development of Lockheed’s C-130 and C-5 aircrafts. After retirement, Carl enjoyed playing 18 holes of golf, gardening and doing yard work and traveling around the US with Margaret in their Bounder RV. He lived a long and adventurous life and his stories about his experiences around the World will be missed. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate his life from 4 PM-7 PM at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw on April 5.
