Michael John Halad - It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Michael John Halad peacefully passed away on September 24 from his battle with cancer. Mr. Halad was a mentor to so many students and a friend to us all. Michael was born October 4, 1965. He earned a B.A. and a B.S. from Davis and Elkins College and a master’s in scenic design from West Virginia University in 1993. As a scenic designer and technical director, Michael worked with several professional theaters across the country. He was a professor of technical theatre at D&E College from 1994-2002 and then moved to Atlanta to teach at The Lovett School. He taught technical theater in the Upper School and worked extensively with both the Middle and Lower School drama and musical programs. Michael is survived by his wife, Laura and daughter Sterling, his mother, Dona Halad, his sister, Tania Workman and many beloved extended family members. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, at 4:00 pm in the Hendrix-Chenault Theater on the campus of The Lovett School. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Kate’s Club at www.katesclub.org/support/donate/ or to the Michael Halad Fund at Wells Fargo Bank. Condolences may be posted online at WestGeorgiaCrematory.com
