DEAR EDITOR:

First they came for the rifles and I did not speak out —

because I did not have a rifle.

Then they came for the shotguns, and I did not speak out — because I did not have a shotgun.

Then they came for the extended capacity magazines, and I did not speak out — because I did not have any such magazines.

Then they came for my pistol — and there was no one left to speak for me.

way to pervert Niemöller's anti Nazism statement to suit your gun fetish.

Too Funny, You do know that Hitler was very successful in talking the Jews out of their "gun fetish". Right? Most of them handed their guns over to him freely. They trusted him.

It was only after he had cured them of their "gun fetish" that he had them marched off to the trains...the trains that took them to the camps that they never came home from.

anon, that's a ridiculous argument...you gun nuts and your "red dawn - citizen uprising" delusion should come to grips with reality. The best defense against totalitarianism is democracy, education, and economic opportunity for all - not a handful of Zimmermans playing war.

Too Funny (@ Jan 01, 2013) - Gotta love the name calling -always a sign of credibility and solid thinking.

I can't tell if you are just an easily led dolt who likes to regurgitate nonsense heard from others or if you are an intentional anti-semite who still wants to deny what Hitlers boys did to the Jewish population during WWII...once they were disarmed.

Perhaps you believe that ovens and gas chambers and the like -- that one can be more easily led into when they are not armed -- are more healthy than running the risk of someone being killed by a gun. And no doubt you believe that no one (other than the "gun nuts", of course)would ever think of harming you or taking away your freedom.

PS: Democracy = two wolves and a sheep deciding what they are going to have for lunch = mob rule.

anon: implies name calling is weak thinking, then proceeds to name call...classic.

Nazi Germany is a great straw man for you guys isn't it? Do you honestly believe you and your huntin' buddies could defeat the US military? First, it's absurd. Second, it's treason.

Too Funny, Nazi Germany is no straw man...certainly not to my Jewish friends who actually survived the train ride and the camps.

I believe you live a charmed life, isolated from the realities of the world outside your Starbucks populated neighborhood (campus?). If so, you are blessed. I am glad you are able to enjoy your latte safely and peacefully.

Please do not underestimate how the mere act of being armed (or belief that you are armed) can make the predator class at least think twice about how far they want to go with you.

Also, know that it only takes having one unarmed loved one killed or physically victimized by predators to bring home the desirability of having our loved ones armed to defend themselves against the predators. NOTE: the police are NEVER around when the thugs are doing their thuggery.

PS - So are you taking issue with the suggestion that you might be an idiot? Or that you might be an anti-semitic denier?

Wow. A straw man fallacy within a straw man fallacy. You have outdone yourself anon.

I'll break it down for readers a la C&C Music Factory:

I say letter writer is perverting the classic Niemöller quote lamenting the social acquiescence which allowed Nazism to rise, in order to promote the writer's pro-gun vigilante dream.

You say I'm pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic.

I show how by assigning me to a position I didn't take, and then attacking that position, you’ve committed the straw man fallacy.

You then set up another anti-Nazi, pro-Semitic straw man fallacy, this time for yourself to champion.

You may have just scored a perfect 10 in mental gymnastics anon.
