It’s time to graduate! The parties are on! Last month, Cameron Bloebaum, Kevin Bray, Justin Delbrook. Yanik Desai, Zach Eikost, Gaines La Hue, and Bradley Moore celebrated the end of high school at Marietta Country Club. The gentlemen attend The Walker School.

Instead of gifts, guests made donations to The Scott Shockley Foundation. Scott, a three-sport athlete at The Walker School, died July 12, 2013 after courageously battling osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that afflicts about 500 children and teens each year.

Scott was a starting wide receiver and nationally ranked long snapper for the Wolverine football team. He also started as a forward on the varsity basketball team, and was awarded “Pitcher of the Year” for the 2011 varsity baseball team. Scott is the son of Terrianne and Steve Shockley.

All of the graduates played one or more sports with Scott at Walker. Scott was a friend and an inspiration to each of them. The Scott Shockley Foundation focuses on early detection, more effective treatment, and research for finding a cure for osteosarcoma.

Tax deductible donations can be made to: Scott Shockley Foundation, P.O. Box 72672, Marietta 30007-2672 or by visiting www.scottshockleyfoundation.com.

“Awesome party!” was the tagline for the eighth-grade graduation party hosted last week by Emily Ames and Katie Strong, eighth-graders at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. The party was held at the Ames’ east Cobb home.

Many of the kids headed straight for the sport court to shoot baskets and hit tennis ball around, while others jumped on the trampoline when they arrived. But DJ Neezy of DJ Neezy Entertainment got the kids dancing and having a great time throughout the party. The party turned into another impromptu activity with most of the kids ending up in the swimming pool — in full party attire. (There was only one reported cell phone fatality.)

More than 50 Mt. Bethel eighth-graders joined their hostesses including Kate Benn, Joe Boudreau, Sydney Carlin, Lauren DeMent, Malik Gay, Reid Gonzalez, Colin Guntzmer, Mackenzie Hollis, Adriene Hutchinson, Maddie Lang, Emily Lynch, Garrett Mallon, Grace Milam, Jackson Moehler, Chris Ott, Sumner Santivanez, Preston Sayyah, Morgan Shea, Catherine Williams, and Hannah Wilberding.

Fashion spotlight of the week: This pretty petite blond with her two beautiful sons in tow wore a light gray and white chevron print maxi skirt, white top, orange sandals accessorized with an orange acrylic monogram necklace — Ann Roland of Marietta.
