UPDATE: 3:14 p.m. - Whitlock remains closed. Police are asking afternoon commuters to find an alternate route.
Gas line crews are repairing a gas main break at Manning Road and Whitlock Avenue in west Marietta.
Officer David Baldwin with the Marietta Police Department says that just before 1:00 p.m., a construction crew struck and ruptured a gas main on Whitlock Avenue in front of Marietta High School. Emergency crews have shut down Whitlock in both directions for repairs and drivers are being urged to avoid the area indefinitely from Burnt Hickory Road to Carriage Oaks Drive
The break is close to Marietta High School, but the school has not been affected by the leak.
The leak could have major impacts on the afternoon commute.
