The exhibit on June 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. features renowned artists Steve Penley and his 11-year-old-son Lyall, and Thomas Arvid and his sons, 13-year-old Jimmy and 11-year-old Christopher.
Dk Gallery’s mission is to bring contemporary art to all audiences.
“This first-of-its-kind show invites children and young adults to experience the enriching aspect of art appreciation and collecting. By engaging youth in a gallery experience with artists of their own ages, we feel an enriching experience will result,” said Donna Krueger, gallerista of dk Gallery.
Penley, one of the most celebrated southern artists in America, enjoys a national reputation. He is well known for his vivid and vibrant paintings of historical and popular icons. His achievements include solo exhibitions at The World of Coke museum in Atlanta and being appointed the official artist of the 2004 G8 Summit in Sea Island.
Arvid, a Cobb resident, also enjoys a national reputation. He masters the story of the good life through his bold still life paintings of wine and the rituals surrounding it. He is credited with starting a major trend in art with his compositions and style.
The sons of both these artists team up to share paintings alongside their dads.
“I had heard from many that Steve Penley’s son, Lyall, was exceedingly talented for someone his age. This intrigue led to a gallery visit at the Penley’s home. I was not only blown away at Lyall’s talent, but by his authentic interest and understanding of architecture and cities,” Krueger said.
Being friends with Vanessa Arvid, Thomas’ wife, Krueger had a window into the talent of the Arvids’ children, Jimmy and Christopher.
“The Arvids and Penleys are friends and we thought by bringing all this affinity, talent and community together, the joy of art could be celebrated on a day that honors fathers and sons,” she said.
“We hope all ages come out for a fun day to meet the celebrity artists Thomas and Steve and to see how their talent is shared by their sons,” Krueger said.
