I believe in limited government — protect us from our foreign enemies and from each other. Give us life and liberty and leave us alone to pursue happiness.
Government cannot guarantee it — government produces nothing and can only give to one that which it takes from another.
We can then unite to build roads, put up traffic lights (to protect us from one another), and other common needs.
But nothing that requires the labor of another person (making him/her a slave) is a human right, such as transportation, not even food, health care, etc.
But a free market will always make those things available to those who will trade their own labor or goods for them.
Therefore I clearly support government fiscal responsibility, which Republicans also profess.
But Republican candidates can not again win a national election if they persist in alienating blacks, Hispanics, unmarried and independent-thinking women and gays and lesbians (and their friends and families).
Because I also believe in equality under the law, a doctrine claimed by Republicans, I hope they will wake up to the 21st century, abandon their homophobia and their hopeless fight against women’s right to make their own decisions and embrace other ethnic groups.
That is, they can be fiscal conservatives and social liberals. Then they can resume leadership.
