Executives: Cover letters are still valuable

GALLERIA — According to a recent OfficeTeam survey, 91 percent of executives said cover letters are valuable when evaluating job candidates, and 79 percent indicated it is common to receive cover letters even when applicants submit resumes electronically. OfficeTeam is located in the Galleria area and is owned by Robert Half International Company.

According to a news release sent out by the company, five tips to creating the best application include: following directions and reading the job posting carefully for specific instructions; addressing the letter to the hiring manager by name, and if you do not know the contact’s name, calling the company and ask; creating a strong introduction that offers the reader a compelling reason to read on; keeping it short and to the point by limiting your cover letter to two or three brief paragraphs; and having someone proofread your materials for typos and errors. Before submitting your full application, make sure all of the correct documents are included.
