ATLANTA (AP) _ As friends mourned his death, police are continuing their search for the gunman who shot a Georgia State University student.

CBS Atlanta reports that police have recovered the car they believe was involved in an accident just before 23-year-old Ayokunle Lumpkin was gunned down.

Lumpkin, of Kennesaw, was killed early Sunday in Atlanta while following a vehicle that struck his girlfriend’s car in Chosewood Park. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and pronounced deal.

More than 100 friends gathered Sunday night for a rooftop vigil for Lumpkin.

WSB-TV reports that Lumpkin is a Sprayberry High School graduate who played four years for Georgia State University’s soccer team. GSU men’s soccer coach Brett Surrency “everyone in the Georgia State soccer family is devastated by this tragic loss.”

There seems to be rising violence around Georgia State and Georgia Tech in Atlanta. From how this report is written, it sounds as if this kid was simply trying to stop a hit and run driver from fleeing the scene. Hit and run turned to murder. Prayers to the girlfriend and the young man's family.
