MARIETTA — A new movement to replace career politicians with everyday citizens is picking up steam in Cobb County.

“Get Out of Our House” is a concept that has caught the attention of influential members of the conservative-leaning Madison Forum, which is based in Cobb. One of them has become the state director of GOOOH and is actively spreading the word about the plan to replace Democrats, Republicans and the rest of the 435 members in the U.S. House of Representatives.

People desire change and want fellow teachers, pastors, police officers, farmers, engineers and other professionals representing them, instead of longtime politicians, said Neal White, GOOOH director in Georgia. White spoke about the grassroots organization to Madison Forum members at its past monthly meeting in November.

GOOOH was founded in 2007 by Tim Cox, a Texas businessman, who has said he became fed up with the current political system.

On their Web site at www.goooh.com, GOOOH organizers have outlined their plan to replace all the members of the U.S. House, beginning with the 2010 Congressional elections. Through “candidate selection sessions,” GOOOH participants are asked to select the candidate in their district who best represents its views. GOOOH will then fund a single national campaign to promote its 435 citizen candidates against party politicians.

“The GOOOH program is non-partisan,” White said.

“The voters in each district will decide who their candidate will be. Some will be liberal, some will be conservative, some will be neither. The objective is to create a good match between the people of a district and their chosen representative.”

Madison Forum Chairman Michael Opitz of east Cobb said the concept of GOOOH has sparked an interest among the group’s roughly 150 members.

“We are focused on good government based on facts and truths,” Opitz said of the Madison Forum. He cited the government’s recent financial intervention in the automobile and banking industries as examples of politicians not doing what they were elected to do.

“There is dissatisfaction with the behavior of many politicians in Washington who are not abiding by the Constitution and kind of making it up as they go along,” Opitz said.

White, a retired Decatur salesman, said he is “very confident” in the GOOOH plan’s chances of succeeding. In Georgia, he said the initial goal is to recruit an average of 800 people in each of the state’s 13 Congressional Districts and then collect $100 from each of them. That money is to be used for the national campaign to promote GOOH candidates and grow the organization.

“In Georgia, we are focusing on development of our organizational structure and expansion of membership,” White said. “We became involved in GOOOH about three months ago and have progressed nicely to date.”

The next GOOOH informational meeting in Cobb is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center, 3820 Macedonia Road, Powder Springs.

The nation cannot continue either financially or morally in the it`s current direction. GOOOH sounds like a good start to do something about it. I`m all for learning more.

Where citizens did the right thing, where politicians put aside their own rise to power, where there were no lies, where tax dollars weren't used to buy other politicians' or citizens' votes, no nonsense lawsuits, and a bona fide attempt to return our county, state, country to its former greatness. GOOOH is a step in the right direction.

I couldn't agree more. Jettison or, if you prefer, fire the whole lot of them. Let's start over.

This is the best news since the last honest politician. Oh wait, this is the best news ever. Both parties are corrupt and pandering.
