Enjoy a game of golf, spend time outdoors, meet new people, and help the community all at the same time at the 12th annual Feed My Lambs Kells Weatherby Classic on May 6 at Marietta Country Club.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. for registration and practice, with the actual tournament beginning at 11 a.m.
Feed My Lambs is an organization opening tuition-free Christian pre-schools in impoverished areas partnering with local businesses, communities and churches.
The founder, Elizabeth Weatherby, felt the call to “go get the little children” in 1982. She opened the first Feed My Lambs school in Atlanta’s historic Techwood Homes in 1994.
The second school is at Johnny Walker Government Homes and the third in 1997 at Red Barn Mobile Homes in Cherokee County. Since then, Feed My Lambs has opened two more schools in metro Atlanta and has sponsored schools all over the world.
Drawing inspiration from John 21:15, the mission of Feed My Lambs is, as stated by Bookkeeper Alesia Hendon: “to partner with local businesses, communities and area churches to open tuition-free Christian schools in economically impoverished areas, to help empower at-risk children spiritually, academically, physically and socially, and to improve families and communities.”
Feed My Lambs organizes the Kells Weatherby Classic as a yearly fundraiser.
It will be played using the Fort Lauderdale system, meaning that the players will be in teams of four, and each of them will tee off. The best shot will be selected, and each of the four players will play from that location. The best of the second shots is determined, and each will play from that location, then the best of the third shots is determined until the ball is holed. Gross scores will be recorded.
The price of entry ranges from $250 to $5,000, with a varying amount of playing spots, goodies and recognition.
At 4 p.m. there will be dinner at the Varsity for the players and their families.
Marietta Country Club is located at 1400 Marietta Country Club Drive, Kennesaw.
After the tournament, there will be an awards ceremony, awarded in low-net and low-gross categories, prizes for putting, most accurate drive, closest to pin on par three, a hole-in-one prize and door prizes drawn at random.

“The proceeds from this tournament will go to benefit the Feed My Lambs schools in Georgia and provide food, clothing and education to hundreds of metro Atlanta area children,” Hendon said.
