A fire displaced 31 people at a Franklin Road apartment complex just north of Delk Road on Thursday evening, although no injuries were reported.

A Marietta police officer was on patrol at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday when he saw smoke and flames rising from the roof of a building in the Marquis Place Apartment complex at 1019 Franklin Road.

The Marietta and Cobb fire departments fought the fire, which destroyed 16 apartment units, said Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin.

The Red Cross was on the scene Thursday to provide aid to residents who had been displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
