Readers give their feedback on recent column topics including Gov. Nathan Deal’s call for Georgia Republicans to reach out to minorities, saying “if we don’t reach out to them, then shame on us.”

Pat H: Pandering to any special interest group — minority or not — is not what will get voters. Get rid of lobbyists, demand fair trade or impose tariffs, reform the tax code so that it is fair and easy, enforce the laws regarding illegal immigrants, demand welfare losers work for the money, lead with integrity and represent the people you serve, pass no law that exempts yourself or special interests, and do not give one crying dime to any country that is unfriendly to this great U.S. Do that and more or leave.

Winning Votes: So Ga. GOP tell me how you are going to reach out & capture the minority vote in Ga.? By running only white men and a white woman thrown in here and there? By financing only a wealthy, white man’s campaign? By being against immigration reform that allows a path to citizenship? As an aside, please tell me how we are going to deport 12-20 million illegals? Load them up in boxcars? By allowing rich people to pay a 12-14 percent tax rate? Republican policies favor wealthy people. By not offering some form of affordable health insurance and health care? By trying to overturn Roe vs Wade? By allowing the right wing, religious faction to rule within the party?

It is the policies of the Republican Party that people object to. The Republicans do not want to do the right thing and help take care of the poor, the elderly and people of color. They only want to do it in order to win an election. They can get a token candidate to run, but will their policies change? Put forth sincere policies that do not favor white, wealthy, right-wing religious people, stop sending troops and money to countries that have been fighting for centuries and then the Republicans might have a candidate who can win the White House.

On the Justice Department’s seizing telephone records of Fox News reporter James Rosen in a security leak investigation:

Laura Armstrong: Liberals think the Obama administration’s war against Fox News is funny, but it’s easy to see that it’s a slippery slope. Once people accept that it’s ok to go after one entity, we’ve lost a fundamental tenet of a free press. Obama and Holder will never be held accountable, but they will go down in history for what they’ve been: corrupt, lying and using the full force of the federal government to infringe on our Constitutional rights. They are the most anti-American administration in history.

On the Obama administration’s talking points on the Benghazi terrorist attacks:

Lies, Lies!: The pols are going to great trouble to hide the truth. I doubt if they would put their place at the food trough at risk for something of no importance. Whatever the truth is must be worse than what we already know.
