MARIETTA — Early voting has begun for the spate of run-offs that will be decided July 22.

The period of advance voting spans through July 18, during which time voters can head to one of five designated locations to cast their ballot ahead of the official voting day.

Even voters who skipped the polls for the primaries in May are eligible to vote in the run-offs, said Janine Eveler, director of Cobb Board of Elections.

The county saw 17.5 percent of the electorate turn out for the primaries, Eveler said, but officials couldn’t estimate how many voters would ultimately vote in the run-offs.

“Typically, (turnout) is less, but we have seen run-offs that have been more,” she said. “It depends on who’s running and what offices there are.

Voting registration is now closed. Cobb Board of Elections regulations also stipulate voters may not switch party if they selected a partisan ballot for May’s primary.

Major races on the advance voting ballot include primary run-offs for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, the seat held by U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, and those held by Commissioner

Helen Goreham and Cobb Superior Court Judge Jim Bodiford.

Yes 'Early voting' has begun for Georgia's primary runoffs. It began Monday June 30th and runs through July 18. The election is July 22.

I voted by mail Thursday June 12th.

I don't see why anyone with connected brain cells wants to drive to and from the polling station, stand in line for an hour only be confronted by former KGB Border Guards who demand to see your 'govt issued ID'.

I vote entirely by mail for the cost of one first class stamp and avoid all the voting BS.

Just FYI: Oregon votes entirely by mail, no lines to stand in and no baloney at the polls in showing your 'ID'. Georgia should get into the 21st century and vote only by mail.

Yeh, Bill...that evil, evil ID thing. Just so awful to pull out a photo ID to prove who you are and then do the PRIVILEGE of voting. Takes a whopping 30 minutes at the most for me to drive to my polling place, park, SHOW MY ID, fill out the form, go to the machine and leave. Oh...and I get a nifty little 'I VOTED' sticker, too!

I'll be at my polling place on the 22nd as I don't ever miss the PRIVILEGE to vote at general elections, special elections, run-offs, etc.

You sound like a real weirdo, by the way. You sound completely anti-social. Do you have a muster a smile at the volunteers who staff the polls? I encounter bigger headaches and hassles and crabby people at my neighborhood post office then I do at the elementary school where I vote.
