Canton Main Street Director Meghan Griffin said the event will be great for families and football fans alike.
“The Tailgate on Main Street is the first of its kind and we will have music provided by Audio Intersection’s outdoor sound system. We will also have cornhole boards set up for people to play,” Griffin said Friday.
Parking for the Tailgate on Main will be along East Main Street, at the intersections of Elizabeth Street and East Marietta Street.
“It is first-come, first-serve for parking, but we ask that people who are coming in a large group, bring one car in for everyone so that there is plenty of space,” Griffin said. “We are hoping for a big turnout.”
Griffin said Audio Intersection and The Painted Pig Tavern downtown will host tailgaters for the game.
“The screens at Painted Pig and Audio Intersection are massive and anyone who wants to watch the game can go to either to see it,” she said. “We hope people bring chairs, grills, footballs to throw, whatever they’d like to bring to the party.”
Griffin said despite a chance of rain, the tailgate party will go on.
“We are hoping for nice weather, but in case of rain, Main Street will be providing pop-up 10-by-10 tents on a first-come, first-served basis. People are welcome to bring their own tent, as well,” Griffin said.
The National Weather Service forecasted a 60 percent chance of showers for Sunday morning and afternoon, with high temperatures in the mid-60s. For Sunday night, the weather service forecast a 70 percent chance of rain with lows in the 40s.
The downtown tailgate will start at 1 p.m. in downtown Canton, near Cannon Park, and continue until 7 p.m.
