Smith-Gilbert Gardens will be offering docent (tour guide) training classes specifically for children’s tours for five consecutive weeks beginning Jan. 30.
The once a week, two-hour classes are designed to prepare docents to lead tours and assist with giving programs for children from kindergartners up to fourth grade. These programs are designed to meet the common core standards of the school system.
The classes will include information about plant identification, the Gardens sculpture and the history of the Hiram Butler house. Curricula focus specifically on children’s education and are designed by Education Coordinator Stefanie Haerynck.
Docents also participate in regularly scheduled field trips to other gardens and interesting locations. For more information, call Volunteer Coordinator Jim Parks at (770) 919-0248 or email email@example.com. Registration is required. Register at smithgilbertgardens.com.
